Gutter Repair and Installation

Top Gutter Repair and Installation Company in Fairfield and Westchester

The first step to extending the life of your gutters is regular gutter cleaning. But let’s suppose you already have damaged gutters. While many problems can be repaired, sometimes you just need to go ahead and replace your gutters.

The main factor in determining whether to repair or replace your gutters will be extent of damage. If you only have one or two trouble spots, they should be easy to fix, but if multiple sections of your gutters are giving you problems or you have tried repairing a problem before and it keeps coming back, you should save yourself the headache and replace your gutters.

Gutter Repair and Installation

Gutters can be damaged in many different ways: ice buildup, tree branches, clogs, debris, and more. If you’ve discovered that your gutters don’t drain like they should, give our experts a call.

You can probably get away with gutter repairs if…

  • Any damage is localized on one or two gutter sections.
  • You only need to fix a few holes or cracks.
  • A single joint or seam is leaking.
  • A few hangers are loose.
  • You have minor fixes on copper gutters.

You probably need to replace your gutter if…

  • There are lots of little repairs that must be made.
  • our hangers won’t stay screwed in.
  • Guttering sections won’t stay together.
  • If you notice sagging or incorrect pitch.
  • You notice water damage.
  • Any damage is caused from denting or buckling.

Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance

If your gutters are clogged with leaves, ice, or debris, it could lead to water backup and eventual damage to your home. Let us perform a gutter cleaning and get your gutters back in order.

Common Gutter Problems

  • Blockage: Your gutters can be clogged with debris such as build up from natural materials like leaves or from unnatural materials like tennis balls.
  • Sag: If you notice your gutters leaning down or pulling away from the house, you need to act quickly to avoid rotting fascia board and total gutter collapse.
  • Leaks: If your gutters are not blocked and water is still escaping, you have a leak. A leak sometimes opens at the joints between sections of gutter, which can simply be resealed.
  • Poor Pitch: Gutters are meant to have an imperceptible slope towards the downspout, to keep water flowing. If water is pooling in your gutters when there is no blockage, your gutters are probably improperly pitched.

Gutter Guards

Ever since their inception, gutter guards have been a very popular add-on. Gutter guards prevent clogs and overflows. Companies like GutterGlove offer a variety of gutter protection systems for every gutter size, home budget and climate need, including the GutterGlove Icebreaker and the GutterGlove Leaf Blaster.

Gutter Materials

Manufacturers use several different types of materials to make gutters. There is wide variability in durability, curb appeal, weather resistance and price. These and other factors will determine which rain gutter system is best for your home.

  • Aluminum gutters are a popular choice because they are easy to install, fairly weather-resistant and economical.
  • Copper gutters may be the right option for owners of historic or high-value homes. The curb appeal is high, but if you want to retain the copper’s natural color, it will be more expensive and difficult to maintain. If patina is what you want, forgo the sealants and let nature take its course.
  • Stainless steel gutters are not a very common for residences, both because of cost and upkeep (rust). However, it’s the most durable gutter material and will withstand extreme weather conditions. With proper maintenance, steel gutters will last a lifetime.
  • Vinyl gutters have become very popular because they are easy to install and have a wide range of color options.
  • Wood gutters would be a rare choice, but wood is sometimes used for restoration work. The curb appeal is high, but it requires more maintenance to prevent cracks or rot. It’s also difficult to install.

Do My Gutter Need Installation?

  • 1 Gaps

Your gutters should not have large gaps. If they do, cut them out and replace them immediately.

  • 2 Cracks or Fractures

If there is a visible cut in your gutters, then water will leak out onto your house or fascia. Any extra precipitation will not be directed away from your home’s facade. Also, small cracks will turn into large fractures, creating even greater problems for your entire drainage system in the future.

  • 3 Standing Water

Standing water means there is some sort of blockage either in the gutter or even in the downspout. If you can’t find a blockage in either one of these fixtures, you need to install a new gutter.

  • 4 Sagging Gutters

A gutter that is bowing or pulling away from the home shows that your gutters’ brackets may be loose. If the drainage system is left untouched, you could have possible property damage in addition to breakage.

  • 5 Peeling Paint

When house paint peels, it’s often due to constant moisture. Most modern paint is able to withstand heavy damage from the elements. If paint begins to flake off, then do an inspection to see if bad gutters are the culprit.

  • 6 Rust

Some gutters may succumb to rust because of excessive rainfall. While the gutters may work for a time, it is best to install new sections before the rusted metal shatters and breaks.

  • 7 Water Damage Marks

Slight discolorations on the exteriors of your home, fascia, or downspouts can indicate moisture damage. If there is any discoloration, get your gutters inspected or replaced before your exteriors get damaged any further.

  • 8 Mold

Is mold present in your basement or close to the top of your exteriors? If your gutter system is working improperly, it could be carrying more moisture to the moldy areas and help make your home a haven for allergens.

  • 9 Soil Erosion

If the soil in your yard or garden has gotten “thinner,” or less dense, this could be because of excess precipitation. Bad gutters let water loose into your yard, carrying dirt along with it. Soil erosion can not only be bad for your lawn, but it could expose your foundation to water damage.

  • 10 Foundation Problems

Shifted or cracking foundation is often a result of moisture seeping into the soil underneath the home. A faulty gutter can leak water into standing puddles, which get absorbed into the foundation over a long period of time. The foundation then shifts or even breaks, causing even more damage to your home.

  • 11 Overflowing Water

If your downspouts are spitting out water, but your gutters are still overflowing, you may need a replacement. Overflowing could be a sign of improperly installed, improperly sloped, or poorly designed gutters that are far too narrow for your home.

  • 12 Unexplained Nils or Screws

If you find nails or screws in your yard next to the roofing of your house, this could mean the gutter is working itself loose. Replace the section of gutter that is coming loose in order to keep your system safe.
